The Star is a seven-pointed star symbolising the Federation of Australia, which came into force on the 1st of January 1901.  Six points of the Star represent the six original states of Australia, while the seventh point represents Australia's territories and any future states.  The Star Pendant by Georgini has 72 stones representing the Nations and territories of the Commonwealth.
